Josh Whiteman is a Sydney-based Writer and Director.
Josh has also written the feature screenplays NO PRISONERS for Paul Middleditch and Producer Jason Byrne, HAZARD for Samuel Bennetts and ROCKPOOL for Sonia Whiteman and Producer Karen Radzyner.
Josh wrote the short film THE WALTZ for Director David Deneen which competed at the Cannes Golden Lions, Down Under Wonders, New York, Melbourne International Film Festival, Arclight Film Festival, Los Angeles.
Josh’s 2009 feature-length Documentary, SHADOW PLAY is an intimate portrait of photographer/filmmaker Anton Corbijn, narrated by U2’s Bono. The film has screened at over 30 festivals worldwide including Toronto Hot Docs, Barcelona In-Edit, Copenhagen Film Festival and won numerous awards, and was broadcast in Australia by the ABC.
He started his career in script development, helping to create BLUE WATER HIGH for Southern Star and developing a number of films for Mushroom Pictures including GETTIN SQUARE, CHOPPER and CUT. Following an AFC Producer Attachment with Alex Proyas’ Mystery Clock Cinema in 2004, Josh moved into advertising. As a Senior Creative at Agencies including Publicis London, Ogilvy Sydney and Host Sydney, Josh wrote and oversaw production on campaigns for Bankwest, Air New Zealand, Vodafone, and News Limited Magazines.
Josh recently teamed with acclaimed Performer James Galea to create THE CREW’S SHIP, a single-camera sitcom set on a debauched Australian Cruise Liner. He is currently financing WEDDING OF THE YEAR, a feature starring John Cleese and Colin Friels, produced by Jo Dyer (GIRL ASLEEP).
